Actually now that I look back at it, Wii U is following a similar trajectory as Wii did in Japan just on a smaller scale. Wii peaked in 2007, it's first full year, and had similar releases as Wii U in 2013, it's first full year. Then in 2008, sales dropped slightly just like Wii U in 2014 and both had 3 big hitting Nintendo franchises.
