I thought a lot of Mario Kart, and to a lesser extent Smash Bros, fans were waiting for these titles to arrive this year and were either waiting to buy it at launch day or during the holiday season when there are better sales. With Wii U sales being down this holiday season, this proposes several hypotheses for Japanese Nintendo gamers:
1. A lot of the Mario Kart or Smash Bro fans already have a Wii U
2. A lot of the Mario Kart or Smash Bros fans don't like the Wii U's current price, bundle, and library of games and are still waiting for better deals.
3. The amount of Mario Kart or Smash bro fans that buy a Nintendo system just for those games have decreased significantly.
edit: Just thought of two more.
4. A lot of the Mario Kart or Smash Bro fans aren't willing to buy a Wii U at all.
5. The amount of Mario Kart or Smash bro fans in general have decreased significantly.
I guess there could be several more, too. Some of these are connected to each other like #1 and #5. Thought it would be more simple X-D
