Ok, but you putting GeoW up there doesn't really help clarify things... Are you talking about 3rd party exclusives, or games financed by Sony made by 3rd party companies - like Bayo2?

mmm no it's not entirely correct as epic was making multiplats as well. It's basically a studio that makes exclusives but isn't owned. Sometimes those companies are partially owned or funded by the first party as well, which is what spurs exclusivity. With gears of war, it might have just been a contractual agreement, but they were releasing other games on ps3 as well, like unreal tournament.

2nd party really just means it's a first party that isn't owned by the platform holder.

Examples:
Nintendo: GameFreak
Sony:(previously)Insomniac, (previously)team ico, (previously) quantic dream and media molecule. Sony now owns all of those except insomniac.
MS: ?

Nintendo doesn't owning GameFreak is one thing I can't really understand.

They probably don't want to be bought, or maybe they're too expensive? I don't think they're a public company so they can't be bought out or anything. They probably have all their costs paid for and keep 50%. I don't know either man. They should've offered back when the first pokemon released. It was obvious how big the franchise would become.
