Why would it sell well? First game didn't sell well with a huge userbase (140k lifetime, according to Famitsu), so it's not going to do much better on Wii U. Most of the buzz about the game isn't in Japan, but the West.

But why didn't it? It's one of the better JRPGs and I would describe it as MH like.

Because of the platform it's being released on + the pedigree of the developer + advertising.
