Nintendo will still be alive and kicking. Despite an atrocious eighth gen showing, they've mostly eliminated Sony from the handheld space already.

Additionally, their financials are on the rise again, so it isn't even up for consideration to bow out of the home console space. And due to the unique characteristics of the video game business (new system means a reset of perception), the Wii U's failure doesn't dent Nintendo's image all that much.

Nintendo did not eliminate Sony from handheld. Its tablets and Mobiles which is now doing multimedia and on the go gaming needs did eliminate PS Vita. PSP was popular because of their multimeida and on the gaming needs with powerful mobile device back then. Now PS Vita is out performed by Mobiles and AAA games are expensive to make them in hanheld unless its a popular IP otherwise its gonna fail. Nitendo IPs are the one which is keeping their handheld alive otherwise they will be gone too. Already their is a big decline in 3DS sales and they still remastering few games to stay alive next year. Lets see where Nintendo will end up in few years. I doubt handheld unless they support Android system and Console race is already lost and even Sony/MS not going to bring new console mostly instead they focus on cloud technology after 5 years.

GAMING is not about spending hours to pass/waste our time just for fun,

its a Feeling/Experience about a VIRTUAL WORLD we can never be in real, and realizing some of our dreams (also creating new ones).

So, Feel Emotions, Experience Adventure/Action, Challenge Game, Solve puzzles and Have fun.

PlayStation is about all-round "New experiences" using new IP's to provide great diversity for everyone.

Xbox is always about Online and Shooting.

Nintendo is always about Fun games and milking IP's.
