I agree. MS pulled out all the stops this Nov and Dec. I think XBO will probably be on top again in Dec, but by a smaller gap. However, the higher ups and investors are not going to allow the Xbox division to continue to pour money into making sure that the XBO is always $50 cheaper, with 2-3 high profile games thrown in, all year long. Just like the 360 before it, the price cut will probably just be temporary like they said. It'll kinda be like last gen with the 360 and PS3, where PS3 made a built a big gap up for the first 10 months, for MS to greatly chip away at it during the holidays. Of course, back then that was WW, where now it's only US and UK. |
I would say MS will try and keep that $50 gap for as long as they can. Shareholders at MS don't like losers, but when they hear the X1 is beating the PS4 for no.1 in the US, I think they will give it more leeway. Especially since Windows Phone and Surface are unlikely to be market leaders any time soon, this is a nice feather in MS' cap.
