700k seems like a lot until you realize that it's only roughly 10M$ in revenue (revenue, not profits. Nintendo probably gets half of that amount. So they probably made 5M$ in profits from Amiibo's which is peanuts for a company like Nintendo). The problem with these low priced products is that you have to sell a lot in order for them to be worthwhile. But we'll see, if they can sell 500k-1m per month, then that's what I'd call a success.
EDIT: I wouldn't call them a failure. I'd say that Amiibo's have been a moderate success so far.
