Meanwhile, the GOOD rpg's are ignored, and several promissing franchises are in limbo or dead (Suikoden, The Legend of Dragoon, Valkyria Chronicles, Folklore, Breath of Fire, Xenogears, I could go on and on). FUCK DISGAEA. I HATE this game. Oh, and fuck Hyperdimension Neptunia too. Fuck. |

Well, sorry 'bout that. And it's not like I have any prejudice with the game, I've tried one of them (some on the PSP I don't know, who cares) and couldn't stand it. But yep, this thing always has new games. Something like Grandia is DEAD by now. Not ever some tiny little rumor about Grandia IV, NOTHING.
But don't take it too seriously, I'm more pissed about the situation than the franchise itself. I know how it is to see your favorite games being bashed by some random dude on the internet. Believe me. |
You do realise these two things don't interact with each other at all, right?
I get what you're saying - I miss things like Grandia and Suikoden too, but getting Disgaea & Neptunia games in the west doesn't jeopardize our chances of getting these franchises. They're completely separate.
Konami, for whatever reason, have decided they don't want to make any more Suikoden games. Same with GungHo with Grandia. Same with Capcom with Breath of Fire (and 6 doesn't count! :P).
Regardless of that, Neptunia & Disgaea games are made by different developers. And localized by different teams who, if there was a new Suikoden game made for whatever reason, wouldn't be able to get their hands on it anyway.
If you dig through NISA's forums, there's a post somewhere where Houk said that they approached SEGA about localizing Yakuza 5 and were turned down. So companies like NIS, like Aksys, like IFI, like XSEED, go after the games they've actually got a chance at being allowed to localize. And people like me are damn grateful we get stuff like this rather than the alternative - nothing at all.
I'm guessing you probably know all this already, but it's worth repeating. The choice isn't Disgaea or Suikoden. It's Disgaea or nothing.
