Even if say the regions are reduced to the core elements only. And you get stories were you can team up with the games protaganist/Battle them as champions? I don't think people here are asking for a 100% copy paste job of each game into one. I'd want new stories that link the characters together in some fashion. The side quests would be battling the gym leaders and E4. But they could make a encompassed story that requires you to go though each region. Maybe time travel is involved. Maybe all the teams have joined forces? Maybe curt is bothering you about a new special Pokeball. They can work in the special item that makes pokemon exceed level 100 into that story. It could be anything. And it could be used for the 3rd game. It doens't need to be in the main game. But they could do this for the 3rd game. Or if they go the route of Black/White 2. |
Cutting them down like that would upset people. The biggest criticism people had with Kanto in GSC was that it was so cut back. Basically, to try to fit six different regions into one game, they'd have to scale down most of them, and then make a story that would feel overly disjointed. On the other hand, with just two regions, they can make a full storyline for the whole thing, and have both regions fully-featured. Certain region pairings would also work well to complement each other.
If you want a game that links together the various protagonists and regions, then I'd suggest a spinoff. Something akin to Hyrule Warriors (not in the sense of it being a musou game, but in the sense of it bringing together the various games' characters). Although I'm not sure what style of game I'd suggest - more traditional RPG style is an obvious option, but so is a Real Time type game (real time RPG system, or real time strategy, or something else).
