It's very important to a gaming platform that they have a varied set of games, not only in style and genre, but also price. This is what the PS4 is doing very well and beating MS/Nintendo at easily. It might not push lots more consoles but it makes the console feel/look more valuable that it has these games. Even from a PR point of view, if you follow certain developers and you hear... our game is going on PS4... its all about perception.
Most of the indie games I am not personally fussed about, but there some that I am... and with the number of games I buy and the range, it's important that they are available.
Anyone who complains about the amount of indie games don't really understand gaming, it's not just about the AAA games, it's about ensuring your customers don't have to go elsewhere for the types of games they want, and guess what they might not be the types of games that some people want to play.
