If you compare it with sim games you'll obviously be disappointed. That said the weather makes driving more of a challenge so you might like it. Have you played any MotorStorm game before? They were developed by the same studio and had terrible rubber-banding. You can say that rubber-band and aggressive AI are trademarks of Evolution's games lol. But that's part of what makes them different and special to me. |
I'm not necessarily comparing it to sims, but in the genre of racing games, I can only reference my recent experiences with sims and to an extent GTA. I'm not expecting the cars to handle exactly like their real world counterparts, but I just think the distinction between arcade and sim needs balancing one way or the other.
Yeah, Motorstorm was one of my favorite games back in the day, and now that you mention it, the rubberbanding feels a lot like that game. The problem is it seems like they pulled it right from Motorstorm without doing any adjustments, a game where it was encouraged to run opponents off the road and wreck them. This game penalizes you if you rear end someone, so it annoys me that they make it so that the AI intentially crashes into you. They're also too heavy handed in their approach to try and make the races close. If you're in the lead, the AI gets an insane speed boost. If you're behind, they start driving like 80 year olds until you catch up. I also hate that when the AI opponents ram each other off the road, they rarely if ever take more than half a second to recover.
Ah well, I still have fun with the game in short bursts, but the issues I have with the game outweigh the money I spent on it.
I am the Playstation Avenger.
