Your statement is partially inaccurate, since I kind of feel that Nintendo has a stigma attached to it's being "kid-friendly." Kids want to be seen as "mature," after all. So, Nintendo's consumers are largely their own fans.
(They're letting me down with there not being a Wii U Fire Emblem, though.)
