Famitsu says maybe this week, or the week after. VGC splits the difference and says almost certainly this week (i.e. w/e 7 Dec).
So congrats in advance once all sources of data have past that milestone.
Since PS4 has already been mentioned, It will be interesting to see whether PS4 can get there with almost exactly 2 years under its belt. It's looking like 1 million after 1 full year is pretty likely. It could get to 2 million before the end of 2015. It will be a very long time, and perhaps never, for PS4 to haul in the lead Wii U established in Japan, but I think it's highly likely that PS4 will keep chipping away at that gap.
Not sure Wii U is at less than half of its lifespan. It's entirely possible that Nintendo will launch its next console with only a 4-year lifespan on Wii U. 2015 might be the crunch year for that sort of decision.
