The main thing though, is that you don't own the games you buy, your account does. So, I would never pay full price for a digital game. Sony could get hacked one day (as hackers seem to hate sony) and your download lists, user information... everything, could go away one day. They would probably have a plan to get rid of DRM to save themselves.. However, applying DRM to games should make the price automatically lower. It cannot be promised that I'll be able to play whenever I wish. Even still... What happens when game patches disappears, years from now? Tekken Tag Tournament 2 will make you start over if you're missing DLC that the save-file says you should have. So, you redownload, or start over. So, even having a disc isn't promising everything will be okay... but still. I'm not paying full for a digital game. Not ever. |
As I said in response above, of course I understand it's a matter of personal preference. I by no means want to force anyone to like what they don't like.
To me, personally, none of what you state as negatives apply, and don't worry me.
-- Banned? I don't foresee a reason for a console maker to ban me. Even if they do ban me, they certainly won't ban the account with the game on it.
- System breaks? Really don't understand this one... Download games onto a new system. System locks up? Format the hard, redownload. No big deal, no hassle, a few hours of downloading...
- Physically break the disc --- there you go, you cannot physically break a digital download.
- Sony gets hacked? -- Honestly, I strongly believe there is a much lower chance of my account getting hacked and the games disappearing than there is of me getting robbed of my discs or my house catchin fire.
-- Last points - games and patches disappearing, as well as ownership --- on me personally, as I don't play old games. I treat my games as consumables, a product I get rid of once done with it. I DL the game, play it, delete it from my HDD, sell it and buy a new one. I don't collect games, I don't play older games, or if I do, I play what's available at the time. Discs only give me hassle of having to do something with them once I'm done playing.
Basically, I treat my games tha same as my music, films, series, any other entertainment --- use and discard...
Again, the question was about personal preferences, those are mine, not trying to convince anyone to do what they don't like....
