Selling the Wii U without the Gamepad would be a big middle finger to those who have the Wii U already. It would signify that Nintendo are going to drop support for the Gamepad and no longer use it as a central feature in any of their games. Instead their plan for 2015 is absolutely the correct one - double down on the Gamepad.

I have a Wii U, I don't care if they drop the Game Pad. It doesn't really effect me one way or another. Why is it a middle finger to people who already have a Wii U? The supposed games that they showcased to show off the Wii U tablet were lame as hell at E3 anyway.

I hope Splatoon has an option to use the Wiimote + nunchaku, as that seems to make more sense to me honestly.

OK, I apologise, it's a big middle finger to MANY of us who have a Wii U already. It would signify that Nintendo are dropping real support for the controller. They wouldn't be able to build software with a central focus on the Gamepad anymore - it would have to be an optional sidefeature. Of course Nintendo have done that for many of their games - but that's been the problem! Nintendo's lack of support for the Gamepad has made the Gamepad seem redundant. Next year they're finally going to push the USP of their console properly, and show us what they can do with it.

I agree incidentally that Splatoon would be great with Wiimote & Nunchuk, though then again the HUD on the Gamepad will probably be invaluable
