As far as visuals go, N64 beat PlayStation hands down. It's not even a comparison. There's a reason why it was rare to see cutscenes on PlayStation that weren't FMV. I'm not talking Resident Evil realtime cutscenes that took place in the pre-rendered backgrounds. I'm talking about realtime cutscenes shot in a cinematic style like what Ocarina of Time had. This is because PlayStation character models and graphics look awful from a closeup view. Don't get me wrong. Both systems had their flaws. The N64 had the blurry graphics and the fog effect while PlayStation graphics had the blocky pixilated-looking graphics. They both had their pluses too. The N64 had smoother in game graphics and more detailed character models while PlayStation had sharper looking graphics. Many people back in the day thought PlayStation had the superior graphics because on the FMV's and pre-rendered visuals that many of it's most popular games had.

In fact, since people keep bringing up Final Fantasy VII, I think when compared to Ocarina of Time, Turok 2, Conker's Bad Fur Day, or even really late PlayStation games like Chrono Cross, it's not that much of a technical achievement.
