Don't ruin the art-style. I don't want any modern looking anime-style graphics, the art-style was what the game back then made new and appealing. Make the pre-rendered stuff live-rendered and remove some of the quirks.
Make it all higher resolution and everything will be fine. The game itself keep it mostly untouched as it is still top-nopnotch.
