Eg.   PS4 $400 (=312€) vs 400€

312€ is the US price without tax now lets add 20% on top of that (no state in the US has 10% as far as I know all either have none 4, x 6,x and the max is like 9.45%)

So 312 * 1,2 = 374.40€

374.40€ is stlll not 400€ even tho we just added 10% extra tax on top that does not even exist in the US.

What a weird calculation. Taxes aren't going into the pockets of the companies. Try this one.

PS4 is 321€ in US without taxes.

PS4 324€ in Germany without taxes.

And there are countries with an even higher VAT so it pretty much adds up. Add to that all the legal fees, added budget for localisation and other complicated stuff and it's actually a lot worse for a company to release in Europe.

400  / 119 * 100 = 336 not 324€


You replied to the old "version" of my comment where I made a typo 312/321 I fixed it before you submitted your reply.


This is now with a 1€ = $1,2453 exchange rate.  Now go back a few years and use the 1€ = $ 1,49 rate instead.
