I've noticed that too. I thought it only happens when you have final smashes on, and a final smash ball is either in the game when you spawn, or if someone else has a final smash already "captured" (for lack of a better word) and you spawn. Can't figure out if it's a bug (which, I think it is...), or if it's something to "make things interesting." But it happens sometimes even if items (or smash balls) are off, so it kinda sucks.
