A GTX 980 is several generations ahead of a GTX 680. Yet, GTX 680's performance is not too far behind the 980.
Similarly, the wii u GPU is several gens ahead of RSX only in terms of manufacturing generations. Performance-wise the RSX is no too far behind.
Also, the wii u does not have features equivalent to directX 11. Nintendo was simply never interested in pushing the limits of technology. They tried to take the gimmick approach which worked so well with the wii.
They are still not interested in pushing the limits of technology. They are more interested in making quality of life nonsense and selling kids' toys (amiibos). Expect Nintendo's next gen console to be another potato.
