LBP is one of those games that DESERVES to sell exceptional amounts, but its outward appearance impedes the "hardcore" gamers from giving it a chance and delving into what the game actually is.
LBPs atmosphere is quite similar to games you would have found 20 years ago...your Sonics, Marios, Crash Bandicoots and Spyros. If Sackboy would have shown up in that Era, It would be a massive series. But its trying to do what those games did (On a much much larger scale naturally) in a new generation that is enamored with grittier games.
As much as I love LBP, it being my favorite series of the past 10 years, Ever game since the first has sold less than its previous installation, including the rather bad PSP and Karting spin-offs.
THAT BEING SAID!...I expect the game to have great legs, especially with the bundles this Holiday Season that should introduce new players to the series.
...uhh...ill just put my favorite quote of all time here.
"Welcome to Pain, the second of three...You have dealt the first...now deal with me!!"
