Mr Khan said that respect is earned and it will be by keeping to the law this authority upholds. Just like in school you don't talk back to teachers, you do the homework and you won't get put in detention. I'm sorry if you got stopped for no reason but maybe it wasn't 'just for the heck of it' for these Officers that stopped you, maybe they are looking for someone just they don't mention who so not to create a worse situation. Be polite, answer their questions. Being annoyed at the situation, answering back, just makes it look like you've got something to hide when you haven't. If you are polite, the people may get to know you, they'll start to respect you and they'll know you don't need to be stopped.
Maybe this is an idyllic way of looking at things and I'm naive on the situation having not dealt with it. |
Oh I am always by polite that is just my normal nature. Doesn't mean that it doesn't bother me to be stopped for no reason what so ever. And I agree they could have been looking for someone but I doubt they were looking for someone every single time I was stopped. Heck a few times we were stopped it was back in high school during cross country practice and we had just got done running like 7 miles so we took a break and were walking. It is after school in full day light and we are stopped and questioned. My coach even got upset because he saw it once and scolded the officers.
Now I know lots of officers that I know and respect adn others that I know and DO NOT respect because of the way they conduct themselves. It is a situation to situation basis. But I definitely understand where you are coming from!
