Good console. Crappy controller. Also while I love OoT, Mario 64, Majora's (not so much actually but I see how it could appeal), Smash, Mario Kart 64, The first Mario Parties, Superman 64, Donkey Kong 64, Conkur's, Goldeneye, and some other gems, it just didn't have the 3rd party stuff to keep up with Sony's exclusives and head start. I'll give Nintendo this though. N64 was supported right up to the end while later systems would either be cut off early or not supported for the final year. Majora's came out in 2000 with Gamecube in 01. I believe Conkur's and a Mario Party were later as well.

I loved that controller! My all time favorite, on par with Snes controller and gamepad or classic controller.

Sony had like three games that made it sell over the N64 that were third party. Final Fantasy was one of them. The n64 had plenty of third party games. I never had a hard time finding something to play.

Sorry but it's very telling that pretty much everyone has taken Sony's DS1 design these days.  a diamond of buttons on the right, dpad on the left, 4 shoulder buttons, 2 ergonomic handles, 2 joysticks, and a couple buttons in the middle.  That's what works as evidenced by the most refined controllers (the most recent gen) all having it.  DS4, X1 pad, and WiiU Pro controller (which is infinitely more comfortable than the gamepad because handles are better than squares) all know what's up.
