Handheld will always be popular in China mainland cuz kids can always buy one without parents' permission(as long as you have the money lol) and play it at home/school with no intervention from parents or teachers. PSP was so popular cuz you dont have to spend a penny buying games which is a huge benefit for students.
Consoles, on the other hand, are less popular unless you dont live with your parents lol. This is from my real-life experience lol. Also, PC gaming is popular cuz you can always ask your parents to buy you a new one for studying(without mentioning gaming)。
