I don't think it's short, Bayonetta 1 took me about 20 hours to complete first playthrough, and chapter 1 of B2 2 hours. (with exploration and musphelheims ect.)
They are not popular games because it's not in one of those shooter/sport/adventure/rpg genres. They are niche for no reason imho.
But you can't stop them from doing a genre they are best at.
