Actually that's below my personal expectations, but that has a lot to do with the high price of the system at this point.
I agree with parmenides here, as long as Sony plays their card right, the PS3 can sell over 100M, but time's ticking and they have to drop the price to < $149, ideally with a final refresh @28nm RSX/22nm Cell.

PS2 -> more than 110 m consoles sold to consumers in (US+EU+JP+CA+AU). The rest came from emerging markets.
PS1 -> more than 80 m consoles sold to consumers in (US+EU+JP+CA+AU). The rest came from emerging markets.
PS3 -> nearly 70 m consoles sold to consumers in (US+EU+JP+CA+AU). It's the best selling console of its generation in the rest of the world, but needs a price cut to finish the job.

PS4 -> broke sales record in FY13, keeps selling reasonably well in FY14, but the PS2 was from another planet.
if Sony plays its cards right, PS1/PS2/PS3/PS4 can sell more than 100m.
The PS2 will remain the most popular console ever.
