Not exactly. You can disagree with a review all you want but when you make a general comment about a site for its reviews ("IGN is trash anyways", "you can't spell ignorance without IGN", "I stopped caring about IGN years ago"), then you most certainly can't praise them when it suits you. Well, you can but it's still hypocritical. Of course that is not limited to Ninty fans. I've seen other users being hypocritical about IGN and Gamespot. And to an extent Polygon.

Herein lies the issue. You're basically trying to reconcile different groups of people that are taking fault with first review. Of course, people who claim all reviews by a certain site should be dismissed, only to turn around and cling to another review by the same site, are most certainly being hypocritical. I don't think anyone will disagree with this.

However, that's really not the issue I'm seeing here. You can't simply call out a broad group as being hypocrites simply for not consistently hating/liking a sites reviews under the assumption that this entire group has indeed complained about all of this site's reviews. People that fall into this category should be called out, but they certainly shouldn't be assumed to be the totality, or even the majority, without solid evidence to back up this assumption.

One major annoyance I have with gaming..well actually any fandom, is this tendency to make broad sweeping generalizations of groups under the assumption that everyone subscribes to one all-encompassing opinion. If an individual contradicts himself, by all means, call him out on it. But to derail a discussion about a game reviewing well because of said generalizations? To me, this really contributes nothing to a healthy discussion.
