Eh, I get that you're joking, but not really. They just slapped a story mode on the games to draw in folks who care more about characters and plot than dungeon crawling and battle mechanics. Fortunately, they still leave the Classic Mode alone, so folks can have their cake and eat it too. Alright, serious answer over, I now respond by pointing out that the world is made of noobs and failures, and that an Atlus working for financially strapped parent companies has had to do tricks on the corner at another's behest. And for bolded, why is it either or? Why you can't have a semblance of story to go alongside the gameplay. Lack of story is a product of low budgets and laziness, nothing to do with being a purist.
