You can take something like that, amplify it as more important than it actually was, feed it to the mob, and they'll fall right in line. It's a shame but that's the reality. Jokes aside although I am gulity too of jumping to conclusions at times, and I have to admit my previous comment was rather mean. The review itself especially since it was not made by an offical staff member is pretty decent as standards for reviews go. I think a part of the problem is the summeries at the bottom of each reivew, it almost feels like those summeries are quote mining the review.
"Too much water" can sound like a ridiculous statement without any context but from what I got in the review was the reviewer's overall problem with "water" was the overall imbalance (she means more towards the end of the game) of water based Pokemon and the water navigation not being very fun. Which are points I can understand more and if phrased better in the summery perhaps could have avoided the controversy. Should reviewers have to do this? No but sadly people will jump on bandwageons if it means making a specific target look bad if the opporunity is given which I think IGN does even when they make good reviews.
I swear this is not the first time a criticism of Ruby and Sapphire was the over abundence of water (and nothing else) at the end of the game but in any case this is just one opinion not the overall word of God.
