I personally think it is a generational thing. Years ago we just wanted to play/experience new games...it didn't matter what console...Atari, Colecovision, Intellivision, Commodore, Nintendo, Sega....we didn't care. We just wanted to play as much as we could no matter who made it.

I don't remember 'Fanboyism' coming into play until the PS2/N64/Dreamcast era I guess. And now it is ridiculously out of control but unfortunately I think it is here to stay.

It sounds corny and ridiculous but teach your kids to enjoy games based on how fun they are and not soley by whose logo is on the box.
Fanboyism increased during the nineties because of the debate over what was better N64 PS or Saturn.  For I while we were going to go saturn but when we saw the FF7 comercials we decided to get a playstation.  After the GT fiasco I gave up on Sony and gaming.  Microsoft saved gaming from destruciton with Halo and the Xbox.  SOny killed it with their EA sports.  Go play real sports losers.
