I believe that is more an issue of marketing than the name itself.  The Xbox One is just as bad as Wii U if not worse as it is using the actual term people had been using for the original Xbox.  But they marketed so aggressively that it didn't matter.


It would have mattered more if there wasn't the 360 in between. There is no denying that they dropped the ball on marketing like crazy, but there is certainly an issue with the name. My brother, a Nintendo follower for most of his life, of which he has an extra 10 years than I do legitimately thought it was just a gamepad for the Wii. I follow this kind of stuff much closer than he does now, but he is still a fan even if he is 43 lol. There has only been more brand recognition for the Wii U since the launch of MK 8 really. I'm sure smash will help as well. 



Gotta figure out how to set these up lol.
