Number 47: Uncharted 2: Among Thieves:

I bought the first and second games together since I was a fairly late adopter in the 7th gen, I finished the first one and was impressed by the visuals both in quality and settings but the gameplay had some issues and especially the controls for shooting were a bit loose.

Then I started playing the sequel; right from the start it got my blood pumping and Drake's humorous tone prevents the over-the top action sequences from becoming too cheesy and just plain exciting. The shooting was improved and it was easier to find cover and leave cover and the camera was kinder for difficult jumps and climbs.
The story is kinda cool but the real treat here is the level design; this is probably one of Naughty Dog's greatest strengths as a developer, if not the greatest and the construction is both an ode to the classic Tomb Raider games on PS and a modern take on locations and obstacles allowing for a semi-parkour like way of moving and the visuals are beyond gorgeous. But aside from looking impressive from a technical viewpoint; the visuals also help build at atmosphere, which very few take advantage of or aim for in moder game development and the subtle use of dust, water, fire and other effects helps add to suspense and sense of motion and drama rather than just fill the screen with arbitrary show-off particles to showcase the engine.

Then there's the fantastic voice acting, Nolan North is always ace but the supporting cast is also amazing, Richard McGonagle is simply brilliant as Sully and voice acting is one department where games as a medium actually can take a positive que from movies.

All in all; this is probably my favourite game on the PS3 and a real highlight in what was a pretty dreary console generation, in my opinion.

Hint for #46:

This is quite simply the best RTS game ever made, won't need more than that to go by...
