Is it to get away from reality and release? To emulate a reality you aren't in? 

I personally do it to chill out and use it as a hobby. I don't really want it to emulate reality, I get enough of that already. 

The graphics and capabilities of gaming changes with the generations as far as consoles are concerned. If you don't expect this I suggest you stick with your older consoles because you know the uncanny valley is inevitable.
