Obviously Sony has plenty of confidence in their product. It is a certainty that the demand for PS4 is so high that they have no need to constantly embelish numbers, but rather try to reinforce certain figures in the consumer's mind.
Hence the sales figures from 6 weeks ago and holding the price steady throughout the holidays.
But also, it shows Sony's resolve to use only true and currently verifiable numbers, instead of relying on quoting future developments.
