Wrong. It was a portable Master System. The two had nearly identical specs. The only real differences were that the Master System had a higher resolution (obviously), the Game Gear was capable of stereo sound (via headphones), and the Game Gear had a larger colour palette. Other than that, they were identical.
The portable Genesis was the SEGA Nomad, which was actually quite literally a portable Genesis - the games used for it were Genesis cartridges.
