In the UK most retailers stopped taking pre-orders for 360 and PS3 versions since 9 April (except Amazon.co.uk), citing unprecedented demand.

Amazon.co.uk stopped taking pre-orders for a while as well, this after the PS3 version topping their bestseller chart for quite long a long time. I think the now known about PS3/GTA IV bundle will sell extremely well.

I think in the end the PS3 version will significantly outsell the 360 version globally. MGS4 will built up additional momentum while we move towards christmas.

Yes so everyone buys from Amazon.co.uk? No one buys from play.com, game.co.uk, hmv.co.uk, shopto.net etc. etc. who have all sold out on their intial allocation of both versions.

Plus, read TheSource' recent article, GTA4 current pre-order data for NA stands at 1.8:1 for 360:PS3, and we know this is GTA4's main market, with the most legs.

The only hope PS3 has is obviously in Europe, and this has to make up 1m first week to catch up with the 360 NA lead. So in the end, the most the PS3 can do is equal sales. Bundle or no bundle (by the way play.com has a GTA4 and 360 for £199), this is no where near what you said - a significant lead worldwide.

I think Europe plays an important factor.

GTA: San Andreas (Released October 2004) had sold over 12 million copies worldwide for the PS2 by the end of January 2005 (source Rockstar).

The bulk of sales took place during christmas, according to the NPD 5.1 million copies of San Andreas were sold in North America in 2004. So rest of the world seems to be > than US GTA sales.

Someone on VGchartz stated for their UK shop the PS3 significantly outsold the 360 version, for the rest of Europe this should be even more profound. For the US pre-order data seems to suggest the PS3 version is more popular amongst its install base. As good as all popular PS2 exclusive games will see PS3 sequels, so I think more PS2 gamers will be pushed into buying a PS3 to play GTA IV.

Naughty Dog: "At Naughty Dog, we're pretty sure we should be able to see leaps between games on the PS3 that are even bigger than they were on the PS2."
