When you create a business, isn't the ideal goal to gain a greater marketshare? Google own the worlds most popular search engine, they make miles more money on ad revenue than competitors because of that. They are in a stable position to do what they want while you have yahoo losing money and Bing buying them out. Same thing here. Greater hardware marketshare leads to greater software sales. This isnt going to be microsofts last console. However if they sell 40 million less than PS4 globally lifetime, there will be conversations coming up saying "should we bother creating a new console when we know PS5 is coming out around the same time and has the momentum from PS4, we (microsoft) dont need xbox to be succesful" |
And Sony owns the most popular home console market this generation while the Xbox One is currently outselling the Wii U.
Don't be surprised if Microsoft is only sticking around the next few gens to see if Nintendo gets smaller and is willing to join Microsot game studio.
