Interstellar 9/10
(Btw why does that magic wave not break in the shallow water...)

because the planet was very close to the black hole and so it was affected by its "gargantuan" force of gravity. (hope that answers the question)

im glad you enjoyed it did the wife ?

I just realized by your post there were no black bars but 2 years ago when I was watching the dark knight rises there was and its the same movie theater...maybe I just didnt notice lol

(Btw why is it always as if someone yelled fire as soon as the credits start...)

same here people almost run me over..I guess they feel uncomfortable.

Let's explain it with gargantuan gravity indeed lol. That planet should be one big vulcano and/or tidal locked if it was close enough for anything resembling a standing tide that hight at the black hole's side. Nm they can climb back out of the higher than earth gravity and the black hole's gravity well with that little lander :p

My wife didn't go. She just looked at me funny when I asked her. I don't blame her, I hate people too :) The automatic seat assign system put everyone clumped together in the top half. At least it put me right in the middle. Not that it would have been very watchable in the lower half with that giant screen in a relatively small room.

Comparing to my own theater I would not have been further away than 6ft from my 92" screen compared to where I sat in the back row. (Ofcourse IMAX is closer to 16:11.7 instead of 16:9, much higher screen as well)  A distance at which I find 1080p content quite ugly, looked fine for the 35mm content. I had about a 60 degree fov horizontally and 45 ish vertically for the 70mm content.  Comparing to 1080p that would have been about 30 pixels per degree, or half the closest recommended seating distance for 1080p, in the range where the difference between 4K and 8K is very noticeable.

Anyway an experience I won't be able to replicate at home until 8K projectors become affordable :o
