I was a cop back in the day. We had to drive this virtual simulator with N64 graphics (it was probably '08 so the tech was pretty dated). Anyway, even though the thing never moved, it felt real. I've been a gamer all my life but the immersion was unbelieveable. Look left and you'd see what was on your left. Look back and you'd see what was behind you. It was so realistic that it felt weird walking afterwards.
3D TVs etc. don't offer this. You'll just have to experience it to understand. To your mind, it's the difference between watching a video of a roller coaster and actually riding one. You'll be "in the game"
