The more it sells, the more they lose. The percentage of market share they may gain by doing this in the short run won't justify the loss.

I believe they know better than you do about that (bold) :)
More marketshare = more game, live, accessory sales = more money at the end...

MS know more than us, and sure they have more money than us :)       but a 1% more in market share never justify a huge loss of money with so many price cut and free games.     The problem for MS is that this lack of success was unaspected; they really believed in their product, they way they conceived it as an Ultimate entertainment system, XOne + Kinect2, but sadly for them it didn't work, so MS changed their mind, trying something---> Kinect-less One, free game into bundle, other price cut, but this has nothing to do with what you said, they are simply trying to not be utterly crushed by Sony, and save their face.  Even my cat knows that too many price cut and free games into bundle starting after only 4 months from release is not a very good signal.  They were not expecting PS4 to do so well and XOne to do so weak, that's all.  What they are doing now is just a consequence.  Don't call it a smart move please...

If Sega was the Company behind XOne, it would have ended like Sega Dreamcast !   But you know MS are rich, so it won't happen.

Buying a console is a commitment. Do you think the people buying the Xbox One right now are going to have it without purchasing any software ever? MS is able to depend on its great Tie Ratios of Xboxes and subscriptions to justify a price cut. Its fact that Xbox gamers buy more games. Even since OG Xbox.
