Da Doo Run Run: Fotonica On Steam With Splitscreen

By Alice O'Connor on November 7th, 2014 at 12:00 pm.

As much as I might wish, I do not improve at Fotonica. I’ve tried the first-person auto-runner many times in its various incarnations over the years, and never found the beautiful flow and elegance that I’ve seen in other people as I watch over their shoulder. It is tricky and it is pretty and it is now on Steam as what developers Santa Ragione call “the most complete release of Fotonica to date.” It’s got split-screen multiplayer now, for one thing.

Fight Not In Fields And Streets: Naval RTS Victory At Sea

By Alec Meer on November 7th, 2014 at 2:00 pm.

Company of Heroes aside, generally I prefer to have my World World II strategy filtered through The Flare Path. Better to admire from afar than shame myself by attempting to understand such things first-hand. Victory At Sea has proven surprisingly accessible, however, despite its concerning itself with enormous boats and Winston Churchill soundbytes. It’s by no means Assassin’s Creed Black Flag with 1940s Destroyers in the Pacific, but it’s at least as much about good times as painstakingly-recreated times.

Fear not, people who’ve been getting confused or offput by alphas and betas and premium betas: Elite: Dangerous is in for a full release (complete with a more affordable price) on December 16th.

Dear me from two years ago: hey, Elite 4’s coming out in a few weeks. Betcha never expected that, eh?

Skaven Time: Warhammer’s XCOMish Mordheim Out Soon

By Alec Meer on November 7th, 2014 at 6:00 pm.

I always get Warhammer spin-off Mordheim confused with that Mike guy from Blizzard. C’mon, Meer, you can master this – it’s with a ‘d’ if it’s got ratmen, and with an ‘a’ if it’s infinitely wealthy.

Mordheim isn’t the biggest name in the Games Workshop back catalogue, but it’s definitely one that’s ripe with potential for exploring the edges of Warhammer’s dark fantasy world. Rather than standalone battles, it allows for a campaign of sorts, with persistent characters, upgrades and all that good stuff. It’s being loosely adapted into a somewhat XCOMy PC game, City of the Damned, which is laying its foundations on Steam Early Access later this month. We’ve finally got a look at the thing in action, too.

Blood Bowl Is Unbalanced And That’s Why It’s Good

By Jody Macgregor on November 7th, 2014 at 7:00 pm.

I recently spoke to Sylvain Sechi, project manager of Cyanide Studio’s forthcoming Blood Bowl 2, about their new adaptation of Games Workshop’s game of fantasy football. I had an ulterior motive, though. I didn’t just want to ask him about when the game is coming out and what the new team will be like. I wanted to selfishly hassle him about not including some of my favourite teams and also present my pet theory about the appeal of Blood Bowl: that what makes it fun is that it’s the most unbalanced strategy game ever made.

rliamentary Disagreements And Evil Robots Of Doom

By Philippa Warr on November 7th, 2014 at 8:00 pm.

Some days you want to immerse yourself in a lush green environment and wander for hours. Some days you want to be a gigantic clunky evil robot with a massive gun containing unlimited ammo destroying things as part of a complete overreaction to a letter.

Today is a robot day so I have spent part of the morning ruining other people’s day by destroying them and their things in Evil Robot Of Doom Crushes Innocent Town Due To Parliamentary Disagreement. They are pixel people. I am a pixel monster.
