By all accounts Einstein was a bit of an asshole too.
Although I don't think it's correct to try and estimate which scientist was more intelligent, the traditional view held by the majority of general public is that Einstein was "the smartest man ever". Hence the reason his name alone is synonomous with the term genius.
Newton probably had more of an impact on science in general though.
