I think it is one of two things (or a combination): 1) their western marketing guys just suck at their jobs. Or 2) everything gets filtered through Japan and someone there sucks at their job/doesn't understand the west at all. What's baffling though is that Nintendo does good with marketing pressence in Japan; I mean, they are everywhere over there. But hey, things are improving. The latest Smash ad (not the live action one), the Bayonetta 2 ad, and the Hyrule Warriors ads were a very big step up from the previous ones. What's lacking are console commercials.
