Analysis

Platform November (%) October (%) Change (%)
WiiU 39.6 39.8 -0.2
PS4 32.7 31.4 +1.3
XB1 9.3 8.1 +1.2
3DS 8.5 11.8 -3.3
PC 4.8 4.4 +0.4
Vita 2.7 3.2 -0.5
PS3 2.5 1.2 +1.3
X360 0 0.1 -0.1

Looking at the above, you can clearly see that the 3DS took a big loss with Smash Bros releasing in October. It would appear that the 3DS vote migrated over to the PS4/XB1, and a little into PS3, which shows you that Smash Bros appealed to more then the hardcore Nintendo exclusive fans. WiiU has not changed going into November, but both the WiiU and 3DS should drop in market share (%) with the release of Smash Bros for WiiU and Pokemon for 3DS.

Since Pokemon & Persona account for about 75% of all 3DS votes, 3DS should see a massive drop in December's Most Wanted. Few people have expressed interest in Monster Hunter 4, Codename STEAM and the XenoBlade Chronicles remake. WiiU's drop will likely be pretty small, as Smash Bros votes will likely spread over onto Zelda, XenoBlade Chronciles X, Slatoon, Starfox, etc. I wouldn't be surprised is some rumored games turned up too.

With WiiU & 3DS's market share dropping, and PS4 releasing Bloodborne & The Order in February, I'd expect to see PS4's market share increase, maybe even above WiiU's. The Witcher and FF Type 0 should also help boost PS4 votes to hold a lead in the early months on 2015.

XB1 will likely stay even, the loss in Halo MCC votes will likely be made up with Witcher and Quantum Break votes.

Publisher November (%) October (%) Change (%)
Nintendo 44 48.3 -4.3
Sony 11.4 11.4 0
Square-Enix 6.9 3.9 +3
Konami 4.9 4.2 +0.7
Microsoft 4.6 5.2 -0.6
Ubisoft 4.6 4.2 +0.4
Atlus 3.7 3.5 +0.2
Warner Bros 3.3 5.8 -2.5

Look at the above, we can see that the loss of Smash Bros for 3DS resulted in a 4.3% loss in Nintendo's market share as a publisher. Square Enix also saw an increase in popularity after TGS with more FF Type 0 and FFXV gameplay shown.

For the future, I expect Nintendo's market share to drop with the release of Smash Bros and Pokemon (which account for 19% of the entire vote alone). Most of these votes will migrate into other WiiU/3DS games, but I do expect Square Enix and Sony to benefit from this as well.

Genre November (%) October (%) Change (%)
JRPG 34.5 21.3 +13.2
Action-Adventure 24.8 25.3 -0.5
Fighting 13.7 17.4 -3.7
Shooter 12.9 11.3 +1.6
WRPG 6.0 6.5 -0.5
Horror 2.7 3.7 -1.0
Platformer 2.0 2.9 -0.9

Novembers Results show us the impact of the Tokyo Game show, JRPG's have soared in popularity. I mean +13.2%, that's more then the hype for all shooters as a whole. Fighting took a modest 3.7% drop with the release of Smash Bros, and Action died (-5.2%) with the release of Bayonetta 2.

For next month I expect the Fighting genre to die off with the release of Smash Bros for WiiU. JRPG's will likely take a small dip with the release of Pokemon, but I expect other JRPG's (such as Bloodborne) to make up for the loss. WRPG's should go up a bit with The Witchers release approaching as well, and Shooters should stay even with Halo MCC releasing, but The Order and Halo 5 making up those lost votes.

Suggestions?

I plan to change the format of my excel sheet so I can just pop the data off right away (after applying a sort function). So next month, I hope to have results up more swiftly.
