This is a prediction I made at the end of January 2014 after we got shipment figures for Q4 CY2013. I predicted the quarterly sales of both the Xbox One and the PS4 and estimated that the PS4 would end the year on 18 million shipped and Xbox on 11.7 million shipped.

We didn't have PS4 shipment figures for a long time, but now that we do I've included a comparison of my estimates along with the actual results. Seems I was spot on for Q1 but Q2 and 3 I slightly underestimated how well PS4 would sell. Even in Q4 I put an estimate of 5.2m but I'm inclined to raise that slightly to 5.5m now. All in all I believe that my PS4 prediction has been a good one but I'm sure the PS4 will end 2014 with almost 19 million shipped worldwide, maybe even more.

My Xbox prediction has surprisingly been quite high. Whilst my predictions show that the Xbox One wasn't going to do well compared to the PS4, I never expected it to be this bad. Sure I've had to estimate shipped figures for Q2/3 but we should have under ~7.5m shipped by September 31st whilst I estimate 8 million. I still think we'll see over 3.5m Xbox One's shipped in Q4 but it's going to struggle to get significantly over 11 million.

All in all my predictions are fairly close to the actual sell in of both the PS4 and X1. However, now that we are 3 quarters in to the year I'd say the PS4 will sell in ~19 million worldwide by the end of the year and the Xbox One will sell in ~11.2m worldwide by the end of the year.
