I mean Wii U could have been: Wii 2, Super Wii, Wii Ultimate, Nintendo 8 or Nintendo Infinity as it is an 8th Gen video game console. Anything but Wii U! But we can't go back in time, but still they jacked up potential names. They could have called it Super Smash Bros. 4 3DS, or SSB4 Wii U because, I don't know..., it's the FOURTH smash game!? Mario Kart 8, they even showed the loop in the game reveal, call it infinity or something... nobody wants to use INFINITY, not even Xbox, heck there's an Xfinity ad at the bottom of the page. The Gamecube was at least different.
Also, they do dumb down a lot of things but they try to remedy that after the main games are completed. I hope the new Zelda can break that cycle and hopefully the NonNintendo (9th gen system) makes Nintendo remember the importance of naming conventions.
