This topic has been debated to death. The PS2 lanched in Japan ONLY for the first six months. The PS3 has not even sold as many PS3s in 7 months as the PS2 did in first TWO DAYS in Japan.
The PS2 was ridiculously supply constricted in the US and Europe after launch.
