The thing is Nintendo is who they are because they do their own thing and put their own spin on everything. I think they are going for the core gamer (now) which is why they are going to be coming out with their own style of these "core" games. Splatoon to me is the perfect example. They are taking an extremely over-saturated, over-done genre that has a million and one iterations and yet somehow they have made it completely unique and fresh. Watching that game during E3 I cannot remember the last time I was excited over a shooter.
Even though it sucks, I think having Nintendo in these situations where they are struggling to get ahead really pushes them to innovate and make something really special that no other developer can match. They do it time and again which is why Nintendo will always be my go to platform of choice. You can say what you want but there is no denying the brilliance of Nintendo's imagination. This is why instead of wishing Nintendo out of existence, most gamers just want Nintendo to put their games on other platforms. I do not. I want Nintendo to stay who they are, just be better at making it known how better they are than the rest.
