Sure, but Metro 2033 did get a good boost for me too setting the fov back to narrow for outdoors.

And for the second point, that's what the whole thread is about. The black bars are only there to use less resources, can't be an artistic decision? Would it only have been a valid artistic decision if it rendered internally at 2592x1080 and downscaled to fit the screen? Black bars have been used in pre-rendered cutscenes for ages.

I agree with this article http://www.joystiq.com/2014/06/11/the-order-1886s-aspect-ratio-is-more-than-meets-the-eye/ which sounds like they did it the right way, increasing the field of view. I can't find anything ready at dawn temselves have said about the subject, google only returns tons of complaints about black bars and it not being 1080p because of it. And now recently the comparisons with the evil within have started where it does look like a last ditch attempt to save fps by blocking of part of the screen and not increasing fov.

Here you go. He says 800p being used gave more resouces for visual polish. They didn't use those resources to increase FOV. http://www.redgamingtech.com/the-order-1886-using-msaa-x4-resolution-not-set-in-stone-yet/

Maybe it was done for artistic reasons. Regardless, doing it allowed for more visual polish than could have been achieved at 1080p.

Hence, true 1080p would be a hit for graphics or performance.
