If anything, Japan is an indication of what the future for the west holds. Brickboxes are going to disappear as dedicated hardware, mobile is a different matter entirely because there ARE things you just can do with a tablet and they don't come built for the on-the-go experience. The Nvidia Shield was and that needs cumbersome peripherals to function as an actual gaming station.
Consoles? Completely invalidated by a PC nowadays.
